A RARE TREASURE
I'd like to introduce you to "Lucy", she's 1 in 30,000 red-tailed hawks each year reported with Leucism. Leucism is caused by a genetic mutation that prevents the production of melanin in the bird’s cells. The condition can result in bold white areas of feathers, or overall white plumage with little or no color visible.
Beautiful and amazing
Once you see her in person you realize that her being different has nothing to do with color or the lack of. Even though she stands out like a beacon of light, she's very much like any other red-tailed hawk. She hunts (very well too), she has a mate, has successfully raised two red-tailed hawks of her own, with the help of red, of course, she brings amazement and curiosity to those that see her. She's so...beautiful!
